Welcome to the Michaila Paulina blog, a journal about my life, travels, and style. Stay a while and say hello!

In today’s world, zero waste and being conscious about the environment is more important than it’s ever been. It may, or may not, surprise you that weddings are, generally, not environmentally friendly.

I was recently in Virginia for a live event that was being held by my photography mentor, Katelyn James. The day before the event, a fellow photographer arranged a huge styled wedding shoot for us “KJ Students” to attend. The idea was to have fun, network with each other, and build our portfolios! I had never attended a styled shoot before, so I had no idea what to expect. All I knew is I wanted to meet other like-minded photographers and let my creativity flow.

This styled shoot was a day-long event at Mount Ida Farm which is just outside of Charlottesville. I got to photograph three styled weddings and Zero Waste was one of the three. This was the last wedding of the day for my group, therefore, we got to photograph the gorgeous golden hour glow!

Having a zero waste wedding is something that would be perfect for the modern couple who are also environmentally conscious. Some things you can do to make your wedding use less waste is to:

  • Use recycable/reusable materials
  • Hire a compost company to handle the scraps and leftover food so it doesn’t get thrown in the garbage
  • Reduce the use of non-recycable plastic
  • Have your wedding invitations printed on recycled paper

When I first heard of this wedding style, I’ll admit I wasn’t too excited. However, these images turned out to be some of my favourites from the whole styled shoot! Not to mention, this is an awesome idea for your wedding!

I hope these photos inspire you to have a zero waste wedding! Let me know what you think about this wedding idea below in the comments!

  1. […] Today, I am sharing some country traditional inspired wedding photos from the big styled shoot I was a part of back in December in Virginia! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, last month I participated in a huge all-day styled shoot event while I was in Virginia. This styled shoot event consisted of three different styled weddings and I shared all about a zero wasted inspired wedding last month! If you didn’t see it, check it out here! […]
